You Never Give Me Your Money
Sunday happens to be April 15th. Nationally known as the most depressing day of the year…. Taxday.
I personally believe we need to immediately go to the Fair Tax, or a consumption tax, but that’s for a different blog I guess. Nobody wants to hear my rant about that….do you?
So as a way of relieving the depression, here’s a quick list of some of the greatest rock songs written about…..money. And of course a tax or two.
-“Moneytalks” AC/ DC
The song is one of AC/DC’s biggest hit singles. During their world tour, thousands of “Angus Bucks” were dropped on the audience during the song.
-“Money (That’s What I Want)” The Beatles
Originally a minor hit for Barret Strong and written by Mowtown’s Berry Gordy. But The Beatles have the best version. Everybody always lists John Lennon’s vocal on ‘Twist and Shout’ being his quintessential rock singing, but I think this one is at least as good.
-“Money For Nothing” Dire Straits
And chicks for free.
-“Blue Money” Van Morrison
And you thought is was green….
-“Take the Money and Run” Steve Miller
What we all want to do April 15th. Same chord progression as ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘Werewolves of London’, but they didn’t have those cheesy hand claps now did they?
-“Money” Pink Floyd
The song that put them into the stratosphere.
There is a cool Roger Waters home demo of this. Listen to Black Jacket radio Sunday morning at 8 until 10 am on 106.9 the Eagle or birminghamseagle.com to hear it.
-“Money Changes everything” Cindy Lauper
From her debut album. Originally written and recorded by the Atlanta Georgia band, “The Brains”.
-“Lawyers, Guns and Money” Warren Zevon
Something else we may need way too soon.
And of course
-“Taxman” The Beatles
George Harrison wrote this song after finding out that in the mid sixties the British government had imposed a “supertax”. Taxing wealthy Englishmen at 95%. Yep. They kept 5%. Are we far behind?
Do you have any songs about money or lack thereof?
